Overview
About this event
The Esri User Conference is the flagship annual gathering for the global geographic information system (GIS) community, hosted by Esri, the market leader in GIS software, location intelligence and mapping technology. The conference dates back to 1981, when it began in Redlands, California at Esri's headquarters with just 15 users, later moving to Palm Springs and settling permanently in San Diego since 1997. The full 2026 programme is on the official Esri UC overview.
The 2026 edition centres on the theme GIS, Creating a more intelligent world, emphasising how GIS technology turns the science of where into shared understanding and coordinated action at the scale of communities, enterprises and the planet. More than 18,000 attendees from over 100 countries are expected in person, with thousands more joining virtually.
The conference combines a landmark Plenary Session with hundreds of technical sessions, user presentations, an Expo connecting attendees with more than 200 organisations, and the Map Gallery showcasing hundreds of printed and digital maps. Attendees range from GIS beginners to enterprise architects running location intelligence at national scale.
What Usually Happens at Esri User Conference?
The conference opens with a multi-part Plenary Session where Esri President and Founder Jack Dangermond shares his vision for GIS technology, joined by a keynote speaker and real-world case studies from organisations using geospatial tools to solve challenges across government, energy, transportation, education and more. Following the Plenary, the week moves into hundreds of technical sessions, user presentations and training opportunities spanning every skill level from GIS beginners to advanced enterprise architects.
The Expo runs across the conference, connecting attendees with 200+ organisations and Esri's own product experts through the Esri Showcase. The Map Gallery is open throughout the week in the Sails Pavilion, alongside a Monday night reception. Networking, health and fitness activities including morning yoga and a 5K Fun Run, and family programming including the Esri Kids Fair round out the week, closing with the Thursday Night Party.
