Overview
About this event
WWDC, or the Worldwide Developers Conference, is Apple's annual event for previewing software updates and developer tools. WWDC26 is the 37th edition, first announced in March 2026.
The week is primarily online and free for all developers worldwide. Apple will also welcome more than 1,000 selected developers, designers and students to Apple Park in Cupertino on June 8 for an in-person celebration. All other participation is online.
The week includes a keynote, Platforms State of the Union, more than 100 video sessions, Group Labs, the Apple Design Awards and the Apple Developer Forums.
What usually happens at WWDC
WWDC opens with a pre-recorded keynote announcing new OS versions and any hardware. The Platforms State of the Union follows the same afternoon, going deeper on APIs and developer tools. Video sessions, Group Labs and Forums run Tuesday through Friday, giving developers direct access to Apple engineers and designers.
When is Apple WWDC 2026 taking place
June 8 to 12, 2026. Keynote at 10 a.m. PDT, Platforms State of the Union at 1 p.m. PDT, both on June 8. Group Labs run Tuesday through Friday. Full schedule on developer.apple.com.

Siri rebuilt on Google Gemini
Apple announced a complete overhaul of Siri, now powered by a custom 1.2-trillion-parameter Google Gemini model under a multi-year licensing deal confirmed in January. The rebuilt Siri arrives as a standalone app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, surfaces inside the Dynamic Island with a Search or Ask prompt, and supports multi-step commands and persistent conversation history synced across devices via iCloud. Users can also attach images and documents directly in Siri, and hand off questions to third-party AI services such as Claude or ChatGPT when those apps are installed.
Third-party AI as default provider
iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 allow users to set a third-party AI service as the default provider for Apple Intelligence features including Writing Tools and Image Playground. This is the first time Apple has opened this layer of its ecosystem to outside services.
homeOS developer preview
Apple released a formal developer preview of homeOS, a new operating system built for its upcoming smart home hardware. The HomePad, a hub combining a HomePod speaker with a 7-inch display and an A18 chip, is not shipping yet. Apple released the software platform ahead of the hardware to give developers time to build apps before the anticipated autumn launch. Expanded HomeKit and Matter APIs are included in today's developer release.
Platform betas ship June 8
Developer betas for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 all shipped on June 8.
macOS Golden Gate
macOS 27 is named macOS Golden Gate. Apple refreshed app icons to be sharper and more defined, updated toolbars for a more uniform look across apps, and extended sidebars to screen edges. All windows now have a tighter corner radius across the system.
Liquid Glass now adjustable
A new slider in Settings lets users personalize Liquid Glass, adjusting it anywhere from ultra-clear to fully tinted to match their preference. This applies across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate.
Performance improvements
Apple tested and confirmed speed improvements across its platforms. Apps launch up to 30 percent faster. Photos appear in the camera roll up to 70 percent faster. AirDrop transfers are up to 80 percent faster. File transfers on iPadOS are up to five times quicker. Apple also modified the CPU scheduler so older devices running iOS 27 feel noticeably faster.
Apple Intelligence in everyday apps
Apple Intelligence now powers new features across Safari, Messages, Photos, and Image Playground. In Safari, a new Notify Me feature monitors web pages for changes such as product restocks or price drops. In Messages, one-tap suggestions appear based on conversation context to create reminders or notes. Image Playground now supports photorealistic image generation.
Photos: Spatial Reframing
A new Spatial Reframing feature uses Apple Intelligence to let users improve the composition of a photo after it has been taken, adjusting perspective and framing on existing images.
Safari and Passwords get agentic AI
Users can now create custom Safari extensions by describing what they want. Safari generates the extension directly in the toolbar. The Passwords app now uses Apple Intelligence and Safari to agentically navigate websites and automatically update accounts to strong passwords without any manual input needed.
Parental controls and child accounts
Apple introduced child accounts that enable age-appropriate protections across the system the moment they are set up. Parents can control which apps a child can access, require approval for each new contact, and enable automatic interventions if explicit or violent content is shared. Ask to Browse requires kids to request permission before accessing new websites in Safari across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Siri AI availability
Siri AI will be available as a beta later this year in English on supported devices. Due to the Digital Markets Act, Siri AI will not be available in the EU on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 at launch. EU users on macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 will have access. Siri AI will also not be available in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.
