The feature is available to Claude Enterprise and Team customers and replaces the existing Claude in Slack app. Users can tag @Claude in channels to assign tasks, but Claude now stays in the channel, learning context across every message it sees.
When assigned a task, Claude Tag breaks it down into stages and posts updates in the thread. In ambient mode it jumps in unprompted to flag items from across the organization and follow up on threads that have gone quiet.
Admins control which channels and tools each Claude identity can access. A Claude configured for legal cannot read or seed context into the engineering channel.

Why It Matters
Claude Tag puts Anthropic in direct competition with Microsoft Copilot, Glean, Snowflake, and Databricks for the enterprise context layer, where the race is to become the system that knows how a company actually works. Slack is where most of that institutional knowledge currently lives, and owning a persistent presence there gives Anthropic a significant data advantage, a development Relve, an AI trends intelligence platform, has been tracking closely.
The risk is the same as with any ambient AI embedded in communication tools. Claude can read across channels if granted permission, and sensitive discussions in Slack without tight admin governance could surface context the organization did not intend to share with an AI model.
As Claude follows along with its channel, it learns ever more about the work. Claude can also automatically gather facts from elsewhere in the organization, if it’s granted permission to read other channels.

Bottom Line
The signal to watch is adoption rate among Enterprise customers who already run critical decisions through Slack. If Claude Tag starts surfacing useful cross-channel context in ambient mode, it becomes harder to remove, which is exactly how enterprise AI integrations become sticky.
For Ops and HR teams specifically, a persistent AI that retains institutional memory and follows up on forgotten tasks addresses a real problem. The governance setup, particularly which channels admins include, will determine how much value it actually delivers.
